High-Functioning Flesh ‎– Definite Structures
Format:LP
Style: EBM, Industrial
Label: Dais Records

A1 Hunger Cries
A2 Lattice Of Coincidence
A3 The Plunge
A4 Afterbirth
A5 Sequence Form
B1 Whispered Steel
B2 Grey Scent
B3 Confuse The Call
B4 Grotesque Light
B5 Mistakes Were Made

This is in my humble opinion one of the best albums of 2015. High-Functioning Flesh is perfect if you're nostaligic bout the 80's, love funky EBM mixed with punk-attitude and good melodies. The perfect combination for me.

HFF is Greg Vand and Susan Subtract from Los Angeles, USA. They have been making music togehter since 2013. They seem to draw inspiration from bands like Cabaret Voltaire and Portion Control as well as a healthy dose of punk. The songs are funky  and the sound is a mix of analogue synth sounds and industrial percussions. The voice of Susan Subtract gives it edge, punkiness and agression.

It's really hard to pick a favorite song since they are all good. It's really wonderful to find an album without any real weak song. I sincerly urge you to give this album a good listen.

If this is your cup of tea I also recomend you to take a look at Susan Subtracts earlier band Branes also. A bit more gothic and expeimental, but also interesting.

Micro Chip League - Code numbers
Format: LP
Style: Electro
Label: Westside music

A1 Microchipleague
A2 Satellite
A3 Stranger
A4 New York
B1 Communicate (Original Razormaid mix)
B2 Power Plant
B3 You Know
B4 Short Wave Symphony

Micro Chip Leaue (MCL) was created by the same people that was behind the German group Moskwa TV, Alexander Henninger and Andreas Tomalla. Code numbers was released in 1987 and still sounds amazing. It' sounds as it has been influenced by classic electronic influences like Kraftwerk, and with newer influences from the early techno scene in Detroit.

Andreas Tomalla a.k.a. Talla 2XLC was to become very important and influential for electronic dance music in Europe. In 1984 he had started the Technoclub in Frankfurt, and it's quite possible that he coined the term Techno a couple of years before Juan Atkins started to use it to describe the music coming out of Detroit.

Andreas was involved in creating the label Techno drome international in 1987 and released projekts like Robotico Rejekto and Bigod 20. In 1989 he started the label Zoth Ommog wich was hugely important for the EBM- and industrial scene.

Talla 2XCL is still DJ-ing, remixing and making electronic dance music.

Code numbers is a very good album with lots of cool sounding tracks. My favorites are Microchipleague, Satellite and the hit single New York. Lots of hard electronics with strong kicks and huge snares. A classic.

A1  Humanoids from the deep
A2  The tazer
B1  Trapped in the playground
B2  Meat beat

This is a bit different. San Francisco punk band Dead Kennedys had just finished their first european tour in England in 1980. Singer Jello Biafra and guitarist East Bay Ray meet up with Adrian Borland (The Sound), Christian Lunch and Morgan Fisher in Fishers apartment in London.

During a drunken night they managed to record this improvised, eerie piece of music in only 4 hours. The music consists of drum machines, monotone base lines, sound effects from synths and electric guitar. On top of this we have Biafras (improvised?) spoken world. Not for the dance floor, but the perfect soundtrack to feverish nightmares.

A  Ayatollah Jackson
B1 Loco, loco (..M.)
B2 Ich und meine ananas (V.01.0.61, 7 Bis)

This is a classic and hardly needs any presentation. The prics is right was released in 1989 and the song Ayatollah Jackson is still played in clubs devoted to the heavier synth sounds.

The b-side's Loco, loco is also a strong àGRUMH... song that could move any dancefloor. Ich und meine Ananas on the other hand is mostly silly and a song I could do without. But typical for this band who often moves between awesome and awful.

Found my copy at Mynt & Musik, Friggagatan 15 in Göteborg. Payed around 7€.

Wasted Doom - Anger Your Neighbours!!!

Style: industrial, EBM
Label: KM-Musik

A1  Hot Rod
A2  Videogewalt
B1  Hijacked plane
B2  Prediction

Wasted Doom is a german band with Alexander Schröder singing and Maik Lutterklas on machines. Alexanders voice reminds me of Nivek Ogre from Skinny Puppy and I suspect that Wasted Doom could have listened to one or two Skinny albums before making this record.

At the same time this record stands on it owns and contains four really good songs. My personal favorite is Videogewalt. It's the only song with german lyrics, and it also differs a bit in the sound. It has a very effective bassline and a wonderful, electronic groove that makes me wanna dance all night long.  One of those songs that immediately found it's way to my heart.

I bought my copy on Discogs and payed 7.78€.

Klute - Explicit

Style: Industrial
Label: Zoth Ommog

A1 Nothing to hide
A2 No remorse
B1 Desert storm
B2 We are the hunted

This is a really cool record from 1991. All the songs on this release are strong, agressive and industrial. My personal favorite is Desert storm, cause I just love the distorted,  sawtooth base and the powerful energy of the song.

Klute is a side project from Claus Larsen of Leaether Strip. Musically the two projects are not that driffrent, but Klute has a more industrial touch and is a bit more distorted. I personally prefer this slightly noisier approach from Claus.

Claus later changed the spelling of this project to Klutæ to avoid confusion with the drum & base producer Klute from Ipswich.

Found and bought on Discogs for 10 €.

Some More Crime - Controlled transmission

Stil: Electro
Label: ZZO Recordings, Hypno Beat

A  Controlled transmission
B  Nothing can't go wrong

This is a German projekt by Bernd Friedmann and Frank Hernandez from the early 90s. The two songs on this release are rather heavy and slow and the beat is reminiscent to New Beat. The sound also bear some likeness to what Lassigue Bendthaus did on Automotif.

I really like this release and both songs are equally good for the dance floor, if you enjoy slower beats. Really cool electronic music.

I bought my copy through Discogs and payed 13,89 €.

A  Leæther Strip Part II (Re Animated)
B  Fit for flogging

This is danish artist Claus Larsens project Leæther Strips single taken from the dubut album The Pleasure of penetration, released in 1990 on classic, industrial label Zoth Ommog.

The 12" version of Leæther Strip Part II is slightly more noisy and distorted then the album version. It has hard pounding drums and an addictive bassline. A really great song for the dance floor.

My favorite song is the b-side, Fit for flogging. It has the same kind of soundscape as Leæther Strip Part II, but an even nicer groove. And who can resist an almost cheery chorus with the words "fit for flogging" repeated.

My copy was bought through Discogs, paying 16.67 €. (I know, a bit much for this release.)

//Tense// - Escape
Format: 12"
Style: EBM, Industrial
Label: Mannequin
http://www.discogs.com/TENSE-Escape/release/2768197

A1  Disconnect Myself
A2  Body Conscious
A3  Pulse Beat
B1  Pull The Strings
B2  Unmanned Cars

//Tense// is Robert on vocals and programming with Marina on backing vocals and drums. The sound is quit dark and reminds me about bands as Vomito Negro and Klinik. But it also has that amerikan touch with a pinch of Detroit techno sounds thrown in.

The bands is from Houston, Texas and a new acquaintance to me. I found them through the Mannequin label where they are in good comapny with bands as Sixth June and Violet Tremors.

The Escape EP is dark, analogue and midtempo EBM with metallic percussions. My favorite track is Disconnect Myself with it's pulsating bass. The only song on the EP I could do without is the experimental song Unmanned Cars that finishes the record. A really good piece of vinyl and a band that I will keep an eye out for in the future. The label says there will be dates for a european tour being released in September. Hopefully they will perform nearby.
