A1  Rigor mortis
A2  Drinking sand
A3  Neurobeat
A4  Close combat
B1  Check it out
B2  Cybernetics and Pavlovian warfare
B3  Ballistic statues

To put this record on and hear the piercing lead that opens the intro of the EBM classic Rigor mortis is allways a treat. It's one of those rare songs, that even after 24 years, fills you with energy, put a smile on your lips and a groove in your hips. I belive I will never get tired of this song.

A song that have recently become a favorite for me is Neurobeat. A song that passed me by before, but when I recently re-discovered this album, it just popped out and fascinated me. It's an up-tempo song with a pretty straight forward rock-song structure. Love the base-intro with it's New wave feel.

Another classic on this album is the song Check it out. Hard and heavy with really cool electronic sounds. Also a song that stands the test of time.

The ending song Ballistic Statues is a 8 minute long groove of arpeggiated base and electronic drums with samples from Richard Nixons adress announcing his resignation as president of America in 1974. Feels like they needed something to fill out some time in the end.

Still, this is a classic EBM album, and the first five songs kicks some serious ass. Skip the last two songs and you have one of the best 'EP:s' ever.

Sixth June formed in Belgrade, Serbia in 2007 when Laslo Antal joined forces with vocalist Lidija Andonov. Sixth June is 80's sounding synth pop with a very dark and melancholy feel to it.

I really love the sound and production of this, but then I am a real sucker for this kind of retro sounding soundscape. But there is also a bunch of good popsongs on this album that should appeal to alot of people. The sad and detached voice (you will probably love or hate it) of Lidija is what gives the band a personality. Even though I like the voice I wish it could have been more diverse and have a couple of more expressions. I also wish that she sang more songs in Serbian, like in the song Mrak. It is as if Lidija has more confidence singing in her native tounge.

My favorite songs are Mrak, The night is coming and Never leave me. I prefer the up-tempo songs which should work really well for the dancefloor as well. Over all a really good debut and album from Sixth June.

Capricorn - I need love

Capricorn - I need love
Format: 12"
Style: Italo disco
Label: Limitied edition series

A  I need love (Vocal)
B  I need love (Instrumental)

Being a fan of horror movies and absolutely in love with the work of italian director Dario Argento, I have come accrosse the name of Claudio Simonetti before. He and his band Goblin is responsible for the music score of horror movies such as Profondo rosso, Susperia and Phenomena by Argento and they also wrote for the score for the very classic zombie movie Dawn of the dead by George C. Romero.

Before I found out about the song I need love I was oblivious to Simonettis work in dance music. In 1978 he started to produce disco music for artist like Easy Going and Vivien Vee. In 1980 he released the first single Capricorn with his own project Capricorn.

The single I need love was released in 1982 and was a underground hit in Europe. It also made an impact on the dancefloors in Detroit and Chicago, where the kids liked to breakdance to the instrumental version.

I really love both the sound and funkyness of this song. A shuffeling hi-hat and a very groovy bassline goes along way. And even if you hear that the sound is oldschool it has qualities that still sounds fresh today. Maybee due to the fact that the synths are accompanied with live bass, drums and guitar.

I found my copy at Tradera and payed 15,56 €.

The Overlords - Get down!
Format: 12"
Style: Pop
Label: Mega Records

http://www.discogs.com/Overlords-Night-Fever/release/315200

A1  Night fever (Radio edit)
A2  River's edge
B1  Cut Fever (Megamix)

Danish band The Overlords are mostly known for creating early Goa trance with the goa anthem  Sundown from 1991. The 12" Get down (or Night fever) is from three years earlier, and far from the future sound of the band.

Night fever is The Overlords take on the BeeGees classic Night fever from 1977. This is truly a very, very bad version, that sounds like a drunk group of male students singing karaoke trying to get some attention just before the club closes. You have been warned!

It's the second track on the a-side that is interesting. River's edge is a very strange song being a duet, soft beginning and then some rock attitude in the verse and a very catchy chorus ending in a strange bridge leading back to the verse. Fascinating song structure!

If you can get past the very bad singing from Rune Bendixen a.k.a. Sergei Dong, this is a very cool song. His female counterpart Aud Wilken has a very strong voice, that she later used in the band The Poets, and her parts on the track are brilliant. I love these contrasts, almost a bit like beauty meets the beast, and it also reminds me a little of the duet between Nick Cave and Kylie Minouge on the song Where the wild roses grow.
