B2 Another goodbye
Soft Metals is a band that's also a love story. Ian Hixx and Patricia Hall. They met when Ian was searching for someone to sing on his electronic songs and Patricia wanted music to her poetry. They started to work together and Patricia fell in love with Ian. She started to express her love in the lyrics of the songs they were creating together, and soon the two were a couple. With their love for each other, and their love for analogue synths and drum machines, they created their first release in 2010 - The cold world melts.
If the band itself is a love story, then the music is pure analogue porn. It really sounds old school, and it sounds darn good. It reminds me of the music of Man Parrish, but it also has acid, house and disco vibes. On top of that is Patricias voice which supply the songs with romantic and melancholy qualities.
The cold world melts is a really strong debut and I have just fallen in love with the anlogue soundscape they create. Favorite tracks are The cold world melts and Another Goodbye, but Love or music and Voices are almost equally good. The only song that is a bit less interesting is the instrumental song Métaux mous.
I will write more about Soft Metals in the near future as their first self-titled album is released today (110719) on Captured Tracks. It's high on my wish-list.
