I first heard and saw this band from Los Angeles perform at the Dans Dakar festival in Stockholm. I was taken with the energy and the very visual performance of the band. The music is diffrent and interesting, consisting mainly of alot of percussive sounds and rythms in a very electronic landscape. Atop of this is the cool voice of Megan Gold delivering very strange and artsy lyrics.
There are some similarities between We are the world and The Knife. Both bands have created a sonic world of their own, and they like to use odd effects on voices. They also share the love of strange masks and costumes. I also think of another swedish band, Soviac, and their album Hello bunny when I listen to this music.
I think Clay Stones is a really cool and different album. The energy and feeling from the live performance does'nt transfer all the way on record, but it's more then good enough. Favorite songs are Clay Stones, Fooot follows foot and Lie like the forest.
