Finally time for some old school swedish punk on Vinyl Hunt. This is another genre that I am really interested in, and I am particularly interested in bands from rural areas of Sweden.
Shit Kids hails from Östersund, right in the center of Sweden, in a beautiful area at Storsjön surronded by big forests and mountains. The name Shit Kids came about when the band heard Jonny Rotten refer to Glen Matlock's Rich Kids as "shit kids". The band agreed that there had to be a real band with that name.
As many punk bands they had a short, but intense live span. The band started in 1978 and split up in 1980. The first EP Jag måste ha ett jobb was released in 1979 and their second and final EP, Rik mans flicka, was released in 1980. There have been alot of short reunions during the years and the band has re-recorded alot of their songs, wich are available at Lunkans vardagsrum.
The music of Shit Kids are not as hard and agressive as the name and cover of the EP implies. The songs are really melodic and more pop then punk. But at the same time it's really DIY and the attitude and lyrical content is definatly punk.
I really love this EP. Rik mans flicka and Alexandra are really good pop songs with charming lyrics and nice vocals. Harry Hårding is more punk but still with a pop vibe and quite melodic. Helgen är här is a perfect party tune celebrating the week end.
I got my copy at Tradera and payed 28,27 €.
