B This girl
Birmingham 6 was founded 1991 in Denmark by Kim Løhde Petersen and Michael Hillerup. The group took their name from a group of Irish men mistakenly imprisoned for the Birmingham pub bombings. (See the film In the name of the father).
The choice of name and the lyrical content made this group labeled controversial. They where banned on some radio stations and other groups refused to be associated with them.
And even on their first release, Israel, they did'nt choose an easy subject. To talk about the conflict between jews and palesinians are bound to cause some heated reactions. What I personally react to most with this song is that it's lyrics is still current 20 years later. Thats the really sad part.
The music on this release is straight forward EBM with a bit of eastern vibes reflecting the topic. I love the female vocal sample in the intro giving off a Ofra Haza vibe. I really like the song and I think it's refreshing with a band in the EBM genre daring to have political views.
If you´re not into politics you can always listen to the song This girl on the b-side. (As long as you don't find depictions of BDSM sex offensive ;D) The song is almost as good as the a-side and follows the same EBM-formula.
