Hata Katten on CD

It is finally here! It has been talk for years about a release from Göteborg punks Hata Katten. First it was supposed to be a vinyl EP, but before those plans was realized the band was put on hold when the drummer left the country for awhile. Then it was alot of technical issues with the recordings and I started to doubt that there would ever be a release.

But now it's here. It's not on vinyl and it's not a EP. Hata Katten has released an album with 16 intense tracks. In true punk spirit the songs are very short and the whole album clocks in on aprox 12 minutes!

Picture
So whats up with the extremly short songs? Kungälv city is only 33 sec long! And there is only a few songs that clocks in over 1 minute. Well there is actually alot going on during the short time that the song lasts, and why succombe to song-conventions if you don't have to.

Hata Katten plays straight forward punk in the tradition of early swedish punk. They mention bands like Liket lever, Terminalpatienten and Attentat as influences on their Facebook page. This is probably why I have a such soft spot for them; they remind me of the punk from the early 80's that I love. Favorite songs on the album are Apan, Kungälv City and Jag är äldst och vet mest.

Garbage is my kind of people

Garbage is back with a new album after a six year hiatus. The album Not your kind of people is 15 new tracks of guitar oriented pop/rock mixed with alot of electronic noises and the cool voice of Shirley Manson. Alot of papers in sweden has been rather mellow in their reviews of this labum due to the fact that it has a 90's sound and lacks relevance in 2012. Rather strange thinking to me.

Picture
For us who like Garbage (the first album is one of my all time favorites) it would be strange if they came back and sounded like something else. I love the fact that the new album still sounds like Garbage.

More importantly is that many of the new songs are really good, and even if there might not be a new Only happy when it rains or Stupid girl on the album I rate this as their second best album as a whole.

My favorite tracks are Automatic systematic habit, I hate love, Battle in me and Man on a wire. Verry happy 'bout that one of my favorite bands from the 90's making a comeback with a album that seems to be about a little bit more than just rekindle the memory of their older stuff.

K-Nitrate for the dancefloor

This is the kind of music that makes me wanna go clubbin'. Hard pounding ebm basses with a cool techno beat. The perfect mix between modern and oldschool.

K-Nitrate started in 1993 and released the debut Xenophobia in 1994. During the first years the band had an industrial sound and the songs had vocals and guitars.

Stark Punkt was released in september 2011 by Armalyte Industries. Since the release Voltage in 2010 the band has gotten more dance oriented. The guitars are gone and most of the songs have no traditional vocals. This works very well for the dancefloor, but for home listening the album gets a bit monotone after a while. The song Hate in The States is the exception having vocals by Douglas (Dog) Sudia. Although I really love the music I wish there were more songs with traditional vocals.

My favorite tracks are I.E.D. and Hate in the states. Let's go clubbin'!

Happy 'bout the new Guilt Trip

This CD arrived in the mail about a week ago, together with a 10 track bonus disc for all of us who pre-ordered it from Complete Control Productions.

This is really good sounding electronic music with an industrial touch. Karl Lindberg and Magnus Nilsson has really delivered a cool, hard hitting, diverse and well produced album.

Listening for the first time I instantly fall in love with tracks like Headplate, Crack Up and Breathe. But it's a great mix of easy accessible tracks and tracks that grows over time. Wich usually means that the album will last better over time. Writing this my favorite track of the moment is Reset.

Picture
I also have to mention that the lyrics are really interesting (not always the case with synth bands). Guilt Trip depicts a dark and troublesome unviverse. I don't always now exactly what they are singing about, but I get pictures and ideas that I make my own interpretations from. I do feel like band would like us to have the balls to open our eyes, stare ugly in the face and then resist it (or sometimes maybee embrace it?).

Feed the fire is a album that I have no intentions to resist though, 'casue this is a Guilt Trip that I really enjoy.

1-2-3 with No Sleep by the Machine

No Sleep by the Machine has released three EP:s on CD titled 1. 2 and 3. According to the band they want to liberate them self from the full length format and focuse on the EP to explore and deepen several different musical directions.

Allthough there is some differences in moods between the EP:s it is clearly the work of NSBTM. It still is, as on there album Close, very hard, very distorted and minimal EBM. It sounds as a wonderful mix of the more experimental EBM-sound of Belgium amalgamating with the Canadian sound.

The artwork is a bit diffrent (for the genre) and very beautiful. The colourful covers are made by Sofia Nilsson. See more of here artwork at Facebook.

My favorite tracks from the EP:s are Lifeee, The pit, Humanity and New ideas. Check out the EPs for yourself at NSBTMs website.

Support your favorite bands. Buy the music and attend the concerts.

Spark! - Hela min värld finally arrived

It is finally here, the new album by Swedish EBM-act Spark! Hela din värld is the logic continuation of the previous album Ett lejon i dig. The band continue to combine melodic pop with effective EBM.

And I am also the happy recipient of the ltd version with the earlier releases 65 ton stål and Epos EP on a bonus CDr. Extra cool since I miss the Epos EP in my Spark! collection.

Beware! If you listen to the track Tankens Mirakel it will get stuck in your head and you will hear the chorus in your brain all day long.

Steg is another step for Söderut

Out now on Wonderland records is Steg, the new CD from Söderut. Söderut is  a band from Göteborg that play synthpop with swedish lyrics. I have been a fan of the group since I first heard them in 2009. I fell in love with the intelligent lyrics and the analogue sound. Songs like Kärlekspsykopat, Du är söt and HH is really good examples of great songs from their self released EP from 2009.

Strangely it's only the song Kärlekpsykopat that has made it to their label debut. I personally think that the song Du är söt also should have gotten a new production and a chance to reach a broader audience.

But why complain when you get 8 new tracks instead and a posher version of Kärlekspsykopat. The album is really great and some of the new songs like Dansande homofober and Fegstad are really catchy.

Picture
I love that they combine popmusic with intelligent and political lyrics. Some of the swedish papers have criticised the lyrics for ther content, but why should it be better to write nonsense and love lyrics? Is there some unwritten law that popbands should be stupid and unaware? I personally don't understand that, and believe that we need more bands that cares a little. Thank you Söderut, for caring.

Two cool CDs arrived in the mail from german shop POPoNaut. Discovered the store when I was searching for Restricted Areas new album Core Excess. Thought about ordering it directly from label Elektro Kommando, but the shipping cost were a bit high. 8€ for a CD!?

Well everything turned out allright when I found that POPoNAUT also had the CD (for 1€ cheaper) and much less shipping fees. I also ordered Dance or Dies latest album Nostradamnation.

Lots of cool music to listen to this week.
